The Mosley Review: Worst Films of 2025

And so 2025 has ended and yet again we find ourselves drowned in sorrow. Not by the mistakes we've made, but by the mistakes Hollywood has made by green lighting these monstrosities. Ya know, every year I find myself becoming more and more sensitive to the many cinema sins committed by my favorite pass time. It truly is beginning to hurt my soul. Well I'm here to prevent you from experiencing that same pain so here's my list of the worst films of 2025. Cinema is subjective, but my list is objective. Remember to click the title of each film if you want to see my full review of each one.

First up.....

Den of Theives 2: Pantera: The first film was a pure surprise. All though it may have been very derivative of many great heist films, Heat being the main one, it still captures the best of what makes those films fun. Great characters on both sides of the law, gritty action and a good story that worked on all levels. I was interested to see where they would go next and well, I was sorely disappointed. Not only does this sequel lack the same punctuality as the first film, but polish as well. Visually its stunning, but the pacing was so slow and the story was tired and too drawn out. The two leads do their best to carry the film with their great chemistry, but that’s about it. The last 20 or so minutes of the film is what you really came for and the rest is just another mix of the same European heist film tropes you've seen a dozen times before. To add insult to injury, there were no subtitles in my screening of this film in Dolby. That was truly irritating considering the majority of the third subplot was spoken entirely in Italian.

Caught Stealing: This was a weird experience. I always love the down to earth, good guy being in the wrong place at the wrong time type of stories. This film was all that and much more, but it felt like the filmmaker was trying to step into another lane that was reserved for someone more skilled in navigating you through intricacies of this type of story. The cast all around did an amazing job and the chemistry between Austin Butler and Zoe Kravitz was the heart of the film. The gritty crime element was there with good twists, but it just felt off. Darren Aronofsky is a great storyteller, but this felt like if he was trying to make a David Fincher fan film with a hint of Joe Carnahan's knack for gritty action. I don't mind off beaten path stories, but this one never really found its own footing and just stumbled across the finish line after a massive trip up with a character death that broke the film.

Tron: Ares: Oh boy. This one really hurt. Like the majority of you, I loved Tron: Legacy. It wasn't because of the gorgeous visuals, state of the art 3D tech or the perfect soundtrack that I still blast today, it was the potential of where the story could go next. It was a perfect set up to an amazing third film where Sam Flynn takes back Encom and he would have a new rival in Cillian Murphy's Edward Dillinger Jr. Imagine a corporate battle of tech geniuses hacking each other and then it somehow ends in an epic battle on the newly restored Grid by Sam and Quorra. That's just a quick idea, but even that would've been awesome. What did we get? Another visually stunning, but yet empty sequel to a Disney franchise that nearly erases what came before with a repurposed story that is wholly boring and unnecessary. Jared Leto was wisely cast as the titular A.I. character that discovers life, but we didn't need that. We had Quorra! The score by Nine Inch Nails was great, but that's all. I didn't go in expecting the same quality or expansiveness of Tron: Legacy, but I was hoping for some connectivity or a valid reason why this film even exist. What I got was 1% connectivity and complete destruction of another potential great franchise at the hands of those that have no idea what to do with the gold in their vault.

And last but not least. My choice for the absolute worst film of 2025....

Jurassic World: Rebirth: Why do they keep making these? Is it because it’s the only dinosaur driven monster film franchise out there? Is it the nostalgia associated with the brand? Is it because somehow, they keep being somewhat entertaining? Well, yes to all, but that doesn't mean these films are good. With the absolute abomination Jurassic World: Dominion was, I had hoped that maybe the next entry would actually get back to what made these films worth it. The suspenseful character driven story that had horror elements, but no. What we got was another brain dead sci-fi film that lacks any sense of inspiration or logic. The film even tries to make up for the mistakes of Dominion by creating a dumb reason why the dinosaurs didn't take over the planet. I know that the merchandise is tied to kids, but we REALLY DIDN’T need a family dynamic in this film. You had everything going right with the mercenary team searching for eggs to create a pharmaceutical product, but no. We had to throw in a truly horrible family story with one of the most annoying boyfriend characters I've ever seen. I wanted them all to get eaten and I wish they did. I hated this movie with a passion and yet I know that there will somehow be another Jurassic film in the future. I just wish they would pull the trigger and reboot the franchise and make it more like the horror story the original book was.

And thank goodness that is it for my list of the worst films of 2025! I was honestly surprised by how disappointed I was by these films this year. One of them truly hurt my heart and the others can fade back into the void from which they came. Here's to hoping that 2026 doesn't serve up any more of these piles of human excrement. Let me know what you thought of my list or reviews in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
